William finished two places ahead of Auckland Girls Championship Regatta winner Elise Beavis finishing 12th. Other Gold Fleet results included Alex Wotton 13th, Libby Porter 45th, Patrick Spencer 58th and Scott Webber 60th. Silver Fleet performances included: Eliza Wilkinson 2nd, Matt Morgan 8th, Eleanor Carll 10th, Madeleine Masters 22nd with Ella Matulovic, Zoe Milton and  Stephanie Kirkman respectively finishing 45-47th.

420 Championships

Kohi Sailors William Linkhorn/Alex Wotton and Eliza Wilkinson/Ella Hyatt-Brown (MBSC) recently respectively achieved 12th and 13th positions during March 2012 New Zealand 420 National Championships, Lyttelton. The Nationals event was sailed amongst a full weather range and with the tidal challenges, provided competitive racing. Eliza/Ella combination suffering from a trapeze technical issue more than achieved their regatta goal.

Through selection by Yachting New Zealand, 420 sailors have the opportunity each year to represent New Zealand at the ISAF Youth World Championships (one boys and one girls crew).  The ISAF Youth Worlds is the premier Youth sailing event globally.  Sailors can compete at the Youth Worlds until, and including, the year in which they turn 18. If you are serious about wanting to represent New Zealand at this event you should start sailing the appropriate class as soon as you can, ideally not when you are already 17yrs old.Famous sailors who made their mark by winning at the Youth Worlds includes Chris Dickson, Russell Coutts, Dean Barker and Stuart Bannatyne, plus Olympic medallists Ben Ainslie (GBR), Robert Scheidt (BRA), Alessandra Sensini (ITA), Iain Percy (GBR) and Elise Rechichi (AUS).  Attendance at the Youth Worlds is subsidised by Yachting New Zealand.Congratulations to Eliza who is reviewing her priorities, having now qualified for a NZ 420 team for the World Championships in Austria.

Andrew McKenzie

Former high achieving Club member Andrew McKenzie achieved prestigious selection 12 April 2012 to join 2012 NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team with eight other NZ sailors to represent New Zealand at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships to be sailed at Dublin Bay Ireland 12-21 July 2012.

All of the sailors named have proven to a selection panel that they are amongst New Zealand's best youth sailors in their divisions. Andrew recently won RYA Youth National Championships Laser Radial division, Cardigan Bay off the Irish Sea, Wales. Additionally 15th April Andrew finished 4th at the ISA Mitsubishi Motors Youth National Championships (400 sailors from all of the 'Olympic Pathway' classes) hosted by RStGYC, NYC & RIYC, Ireland. Check out all the videos from the 2012 ISA Mitsubishi Youth National Championships here: http://vimeo.com/channels/isayouthnats2012

New Zealand has a proud history of success at the ISAF Youth Worlds which dates back to 1971. Over the history of the event kiwis have returned home with a total of 42 medals including 15 Gold, 15 Silver and 12 Bronze, and this‚ year's team will be looking to increase that tally.

Last year, the team just missed out on the medals, but four representatives finished in the top ten. The ISAF Youth Worlds was first held in Sweden in 1971. The 2012 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Dublin Bay, Ireland is the 42nd Championship.
Past notable winners include Americas Cup skippers, Olympic Medallists and Volvo Ocean and AC Race sailors such as Chris Dickson, Russell Coutts, Murray Jones, Dean Barker and Stuart Bannatyne.

The Club wishes Andrew well for ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships.
